Salmon DNA: Natural Support for Skin Renewal
Salmon DNA treatment is the application of purified polynucleotides derived from salmon into the skin with fine needles. The aim is to support the skin's moisture retention, elasticity and overall quality. Your treatment plan is determined during your consultation, based on your skin's needs.
What is Salmon DNA (Polynucleotide)?
Polynucleotides are highly biocompatible ingredients; in salmon DNA treatment they are used to support the skin's renewal process. Unlike fillers, the goal is not to add volume but to support the skin's own quality. It is usually planned as a course of sessions at set intervals.
In Which Areas Is It Applied?
Salmon DNA treatment is most often planned for the following areas:
- Face: For overall skin quality and hydration support.
- Around the Eyes: For fine lines and a tired appearance.
- Neck and Décolleté: To support loss of elasticity.
- Backs of the Hands: To support skin quality.
How Is Salmon DNA Applied?
- Consultation and Assessment: Your skin's needs are identified and a course plan is created.
- Preparation: A topical numbing cream may be applied for comfort.
- Application: The product is applied to the skin with fine needles; the procedure usually takes 20-30 minutes.
- Follow-up: Session intervals and the full course are personalized during your consultation.
Who Is It Suitable For?
- People with skin dryness, loss of elasticity or fine lines.
- Individuals with dull, tired-looking skin.
- Those with sun damage or smoking-related loss of skin quality.
- Those seeking natural-looking, non-surgical support.
After Salmon DNA Treatment
You can usually return to daily life on the same day:
- Mild redness or bumps may occur at the injection points; they usually subside within a few hours.
- Make-up is not recommended on the day of the procedure.
- Avoid sauna, swimming pools and intense exercise for the first 24 hours.
- Regular use of sunscreen is recommended.
Advantages of Salmon DNA Treatment
- No surgical intervention required.
- Aims to support the skin's own quality; a natural look is the goal.
- Can be combined with mesotherapy and other treatments.
- Return to social life is usually quick.
Risks and Side Effects
When performed by an experienced physician, salmon DNA treatment is generally well tolerated; temporary side effects may rarely occur:
- Temporary redness, tenderness or bruising.
- Small bumps (usually subside within a few hours).
- Rarely, an allergic reaction; suitability is reviewed together during your consultation.
How It Differs From Filler and Mesotherapy
Non-surgical treatments are often grouped together, but the three address different problems.
| Treatment | Target | Adds volume? |
|---|---|---|
| Salmon DNA (polynucleotide) | Supporting tissue renewal | No |
| Mesotherapy | Supporting skin quality | No |
| Dermal filler | Adding volume at a point | Yes |
The practical distinction: if there is hollowing, filler is considered; if tissue quality is the target, salmon DNA or mesotherapy comes into play. Where there is sagging, none of them is sufficient and surgical assessment is required.
These treatments need not be alternatives to one another; addressing different goals, they can sit in the same plan. See mesotherapy and dermal fillers.
How Many Sessions, and How Long Does It Last?
This is planned as a programme rather than a single session, because the effect is cumulative: the response strengthens as the tissue stimulus is repeated.
The general approach is a series of initial sessions at set intervals, followed by less frequent maintenance sessions to hold the level achieved. Session count and interval depend on the target area, skin condition and individual response.
To be clear about expectations: the result is not visible after the first session; change is gradual, and most people first notice it in how the skin feels and in its luminosity. It is not a permanent treatment — because ageing and environmental effects continue, the level achieved regresses without maintenance.
Treat claims of permanent results, or of marked change in a single session, with caution.
Who Is Not Suitable?
- Not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Not used in people with a known allergy to fish or seafood. Because of the origin of the material, this is specifically asked about and must be mentioned at consultation.
- If there is active skin infection, an eczema flare or an open wound in the treatment area, the session is postponed.
- In people with a bleeding or clotting disorder, or taking blood thinners, planning is made with medical input.
- Where there is uncontrolled systemic illness, that condition is stabilised first.
- People with an autoimmune condition or receiving treatment affecting the immune system require separate assessment.
- Not the right method for anyone whose goal is to correct sagging or gain significant volume.
This is a medical procedure and is not appropriate in non-medical settings such as beauty salons.
